Bangkok (still)
Sorry it's been so long people, but it's been a bit hectic in SE asia, so, got a couple of hours to spare so I'll try and bring you all up to date.
Where were we? Ah, still in Bangkok. The tour had ended and Rich and I were on our own. From what we've seen so far Thailand is a pretty easy place to get about, so we weren't too worried. We had about 3 weeks to explore Thailand before Chris and Kate arrive on 2nd August, we already had a plan of where to go with them. We consulted our Thai guide Kit who pointed out some of the best bits of Thailand and decided he knows best and to go and visit some. We had a few more days in Bangkok to send some stuff home, do a bit of shopping and the like before we got on a train up North.
Now, the sending of stuff home and shopping was not as successful as we'd hoped. Remember that painting of Kates that we promised we'd send to her? Well, we turned up at the post office with the painting all wrapped in brown paper but they wouldn't accept it, unless it was in a tube. Did they sell tubes?? Did they buggery! We wandered around bangkok for a few hours in search of a tube but to no avail, so we resigned ourselves to carrying it around with us until we did find a tube. As for the shopping, I needed some pants as I'd lost a couple of pairs along the way. You'd think this was an easy task, but it wasn't, you see Thai ladies are very tiny, they have little bottoms, I am a fat assed westerner.....I looked in numerous shops, market stalls but nothing, their XL was equivalent to a size 10! Lots of shop assistants tried to convince me that these XL would stretch to fit me but I knew differently, so I had to give up and resort to wearing my pants for 3 days at a time!!!
Also in Bangkok Rich decided he'd had enough of his hair sticking to his face in the humidity (he tied it back but the front still wouldnt' stay in a ponytail) and so did something about it......something pretty drastic......check out the photos (you'll have check out the photos on a different post though as Rich didn't put any on here!!)!!
We didn't do much touristy stuff in Bangkok, mostly just wandered around. It's as hectic as I imagined it would be and things really are cheap. Crossing the road in Bangkok is always a joy and the tuk tuk rides are scary, but it's all part of the fun.
