Hello Singapore

After a 7 hour flight from chilly Sydney we arrived in hot hot heat and humidity in Singapore. We were only there for 3 nights before we met up with our tour group to take us through Malaysia and into Bangkok so we wanted to make the most of our time.

So during our time we had a good look around the city, walking around the colonial district and riding on the MRT (like the tube). We went on a bumboat ride down the river and learnt all about the different areas of the city. A walk around the botanical gardens (in the rain) and the orchid gardens. We had some great local food in the many restaurants and bars. On one afternoon we got all dressed up (well, put on our cleanest smartest clothes!) and went to Raffles and drank Singapore Slings! That was cool. Raffles is an absolutely Beautiful hotel and even us humble backpackers got 5 star treatment while enjoying our cocktails!

We had a bit of a ride around the city on a trishaw, a little cart with a bike on the side. Poor guy must've been knackered, he was only a little old man and he had to cart our fat asses all over the place....we gave him a tip though as he looked ready to kark it by the end!!!

So, a whistle stop tour of Singapore and we really liked it. It's true that it is really clean, there are hefty fines for littering, spitting and the like and they are enforced. The people are friendly, the streets are clean, the food is good, it's not that cheap, but cheaper than Oz and it's just a really interesting city with all it's different areas, great nightlife and to top it off, the sun always shines!!

After all that hecticness we met up with our tour group who would be our 'family' for the next 16 nights. Our guide is a guy from Thailand called Kit. There are only 3 others on the tour so it's nice and intimate! Shannon, a guy from San Francisco, and a couple of young girls from Northern Ireland, Kate and Bronagh. So we had a bit of a chat with them all and were given a bit of a briefing about the itinerary and stuff. Next stop Malyasia!
